POSITION PURPOSE
Applies the principles of accounting within an assigned area of accounting and creating and interpreting financial statements and reports.

Blue Cross Blue Shield Association, financial institutions, external auditors and other regulatory agencies as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related finance field required
Work Experience
- 5 years of investment accounting or related experience required
Skills and Abilities
Strong math, organizational and analytical skills.
Effective interpersonal and oral/written communication skills are necessary as well as the ability to work independently.
Must be able to complete tasks under time constraints
Must have working knowledge of Microsoft applications with a high level of competency in Excel.

ACCOUNTABILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Examines, analyzes, and interprets accounting records for the purpose of giving advice or preparing statements.
Prepares monthly operating reports in order to present accurate and timely financial statements.
Works independently on moderately complex assignments within investment accounting and reporting. Responsible for complex accounting concepts (e.g., US GAAP, US Statutory), and investment classes (e.g., Stocks, Bonds, other invested assets such as mortgages and partnerships).
Prepares analysis and presents results to management with recommended action. Demonstrated ability to perform responsibilities outside of own unit.
Will be proficient in the use of Microsoft Excel, Clearwater Analytics, Sungard iWorks or similar Investment Accounting system
Will serve as a subject matter expert and have accountability and responsibility for accounting processes or asset classes (i.e. the completion and accuracy of an entire reporting deliverable such as statutory statement schedules, etc.).
Prepares first level analysis of accounting issues or new accounting pronouncements, , and presents findings to department manager
Prepares complex journal entries and reconciliations and/or performs detail review of simple to moderately complex journal entries or reconciliations. Reviews or reconciles general ledger accounts and investigates differences in order to close the books accurately on a monthly basis.
May be accountable for a small to medium sized project or a subcomponent of a larger initiative
Able to work on multiple assignments simultaneously, many with short turnaround times
Assist manager with audit process and communicating answers to internal and external auditors as well as to members of other areas of Finance
May be required to review simple to moderately complex work papers of peers and other team members
